SICU – Surgical Intensive Care Unit - PRN
WJM Professionals is recruiting for a Registered Nurse in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit– SICU at the Richmond VA Medical Center, located at 1201 Broad Rock Blvd, Richmond, Virginia. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SICU RN:
- Conduct bedside rounds with off-going nurses on assigned patients.
- Check off IVs (site, rate, solution), dressing drainage tubes, respiratory devices (ventilators, etc.), and special communications including patients’ service and physician.
- Administer medications and observe for therapeutic effects.
- Administration of IV solutions as required.
- Transfuse blood and blood products.
- Initiate venipuncture for lab work or IV therapy as appropriate.
- Obtain blood specimens from arterial lines. Verify and report lab results to the physician.
- Maintain arterial and thermos dilution catheter lines as necessary.
- Record and interpret PA pressure readings.
- Perform cardiac outputs as ordered. Call physicians to report all abnormal readings.
- Interpret EKG readings on the Med/Surg and ICUs. Notify the physician of cardiac arrhythmias and initiate emergency interventions as indicated.
- Maintain special therapeutic devices (traction, drains, etc.)
- Transcribe and/or verify physician orders. Accept verbal or telephone orders in EMERGENCIES ONLY.
- Narcotics count – Ensure narcotics and keys are accounted for before leaving.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have at least two (2) years of direct patient care experience within the last three years in the field.
- Shall be licensed in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
- ACLS
- BLS
- Services will be needed for all shifts in a 24-hour period / 7 days per week / 365 days per year, to include 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts as specified by the unit.
