ANESTHESIOLOGIST (BC/BE)

Board Certified /Board Eligible Anesthesiologists are needed to service eligible beneficiaries of the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Providence VAHCS. Anesthesiology services are Located at Providence VA Healthcare System, 830 Chalkstone Ave Providence, RI 02908.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The physicians shall cover the range of Anesthesiology services as would be provided in a state-of-the-art civilian medical treatment facility.
  • The standard of care shall be of a quality, meeting or exceedingly currently recognized national standards as established by the: ASA
  • The physician(s) shall provide clinical Anesthesiology services and shall be present on time for any scheduled clinics/surgeries as documented by physical presence in the clinic or operating room at the scheduled start time.
  • The physician(s) shall provide comprehensive clinical anesthesiology services including patients undergoing orthopedic surgery, and major vascular, thoracic, plastic, ENT, urologic, gynecologic, general surgery, colorectal, and ophthalmologic operations.
  • The physician(s) shall follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.
  • The physician(s) shall provide discharge education and follow-up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all Anesthesiology clinical or surgical patients.
  • The physician shall provide clinical care to patients undergoing electroconvulsive therapy and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, electrophysiology, gastrointestinal, and radiological suites.
  • The physician shall provide primary coverage for all patients in the surgical intensive care, short-stay unit, acute and chronic pain management services, diagnostic transesophageal echocardiography for medical and surgical patients, and emergency airway management.
  • The physician shall provide consultative services at the patient’s bedside if the patient is not ambulatory and, in the clinic, setting if the patient can report to the outpatient clinic.
  • Patients must be seen by a contracted physician on-site at the facility promptly according to VA Rules and Regulations on clinic wait times and consult completion.
  • Physician(s) shall be available and present in the clinic during normal facility clinic hours, which will be established, and may be revised, as deemed appropriate for patient care by the Chief of Staff.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • The physician(s) shall have a current license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia when services are performed onsite on VA property.
  • All licenses held by the key personnel working on this contract shall be full and unrestricted licenses.
  • Physician(s) shall be Board Certified /Board Eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) and be currently certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency, HRE, and VA Mandatory.
  • Physician shall provide a copy of their current DEA certificate.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience.

VA Business Hours

  • Regular Weekday Coverage consists of operating room (OR) coverage
  • 7:00am-5:30pm.
  • Currently, normal OR hours are 7:00am- 5:30pm.
  • The physician must make the contracted physician available on-call during all hours when the facility clinic is closed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • On-call contracted physicians must be available for emergency airway management and emergent OR cases.
  • On-call contracted physicians must be available within 15 minutes by phone and on-site, within 30 minutes
