Description
CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT SERVICES
SPECIFIC TASKS. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Assess patients needs for CMA/MA care, plans for Medical interventions, assess the
effectiveness of the interventions and alters the Medical plan and interventions
appropriately;
2. Administers oxygen, subcutaneous and intra-muscular medication;
3. Prepares patients for surgical and or diagnostic procedures;
4. Prepares, operates, and monitors specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors,
defibrillators, etc.;
5. Inventory medicine and drug stocks to ensure adequate supplies and controls;
6. Provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur in
addition to regular scheduled appointments;
7. Greets and receives patients to the clinic and discreetly ascertains the nature of their
illness or condition and direct them to appropriate care;
8. Responds to request for routine non-medical information such as duty status;
9. Receives and screen phone calls;
10. Files and maintains Healthcare records;
11. Files health care reports in health records;
12. Maintains Health Record checkout file;
13. Inputs daily patient information into the Coast Guard Healthcare Information Systems;
14. Required to use all Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel, Access, Outlook,
PowerPoint, etc. to track, data, generate reports, and prepare presentations.
15. Reviews and routes incoming correspondence;
16. Schedules and tracks consultations for specialty care;
17. Maintains referral log and notifies patients of appointments;
18. Reviews and verifies patient eligibility for care in accordance with Defense
Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS) computer system
guidelines;
19. The CMA/MA performance will be monitored through a joint function of the
Health, Safety, Work-Life Service Center (HSWL SC) Quality Improvement
process and the contractual demand for services. CMA/MA productivity is
expected to be comparable to that of other medical department staff assigned to
the same facility authorized the same scope of duties;
20. Provide instruction to clinic staff on an ad hoc basis;
21. Prepare and submit appropriate documentation as specified in applicable
regulations.
22. Become familiar with the TRICARE medical benefits program through
completion of appropriate nonresident training and offer benefits counseling to
Coast Guard beneficiaries regarding utilizing their TRICARE benefit.
